The Long View

I send off a couple of stories each month to various journals and competitions. Sometimes I get published, sometimes I get mercilessly rejected and my heart trampled into the still fiery coals of a summer bonfire.

Bastards.

I recently entered the Fish Publishing Flash Fiction prize and, although I didn’t win (bastards!!), I did make the long list. Of 1250 stories submitted, 278 were long listed. I can still think of that as an achievement, amiright? I’m pretty happy with that actually as, in the style beloved by writers throughout history, I bashed out the story in a few hours the day before the competition was due. I’m currently reworking it for another journal so better luck next time.

As C said, top 300 this time, top 30 next time. Little by little. In the meantime, we’re celebrating here in Zagreb with a couple of litres of beer. Just for a change 🙂
