Do you need a writerly pep talk, some hard love or just need to talk through your manuscript?

Your Writing PT

I offer one-on-one mentor sessions for writers of all levels. Think of me as your personal trainer – except instead of making you do burpees, we’ll nut out what is and isn’t working in your story.

Writers love my no-nonsense advice, which is always delivered with grace, love and good humour.

I want you to succeed. I want you to get out of that pit of despair. I want you to finish a draft that you’re proud of. And I want you to go on to pitch to agents and publishers.

Mentor chat or live feedback

During our session, we can either chat about the issues you’re facing and figure out approaches and solutions, or we can workshop a piece of your work together.

Mentor chat

This is great if you have questions like:

– I’m not sure what my character should do next

– I’m not sure what I should do next

– I’m stuck in a plot hole and I don’t know how to get out

– I’ve finished my first draft – what should I do now?

Live feedback

In a live feedback session, we’ll workshop your writing in real time using a shared document such as Google Docs.

For mentor chats and live feedback, sessions are $55 for a 30-minute block. Book your time using the Calendly link below.

Structural edit and manuscript feedback

Getting detailed feedback on your manuscript is an important part of the writing process… But it’s also very expensive! Keep that in mind before deciding if you’re ready to take that step.

Whatever you submit to me, I’ll read carefully and provide detailed feedback on structure, voice, pacing and language. I’ll also highlight any areas, such as point of view, dialogue, tense, etc, that I think you need to work on and let you know about resources you can use to strengthen those areas.

I do not provide line editing – so I won’t be correcting every spelling and grammar mistake!

That means that you should not submit your first draft. Wait until you are on your second or third draft before you look at a structural edit with a professional editor or manuscript assessor.

I charge $55 for every 1000 words or part thereof.

So a 1800-word short story will be $110.

A 4990-word manuscript extract will be $275.

A 60,000-word draft novel will be $3300.

Et cetera.

I don’t want to waste your time (or mine) so you’ll need to fill out the form below before we decide that we’re a good fit to work together. Please also include a 1000-word sample so I can see roughly where you’re at.

If you can’t afford a professional assessment – fear not! There are cheaper options. First of all, I recommend you make friends with other writers and workshop each other’s writing. There are also some people on Fiverr who are considerably more affordable. I suspect that a lot of them are using AI to speed up their work, but that could be an excellent option if you need some quick and general feedback.
